Back during The Great Ice Storm of 2007, I did a very dumb thing. We were stuck at home with six inches of ice cover and had been without electricity for several days. Ten days to be exact. So when our electricity came back on the night before and remained on into the morning, I was sure that we were back on for good. I decided that while the entire house was asleep, I'd take this opportunity to start backing up my computer to our server so that we could rebuild it. (This is where the dumb thing comes in.) So I started transferring massive amounts of data to our server when suddenly, like a Rice Crispies commercial, things went Snap! Crackle! and Pop! The power went out.
Apparently this is not just a bad thing because it was about three degrees outside and we would soon be freezing to death, but also because when the computers shut off like that the data stream was corrupted. Very dumbly I had destroyed both our server and parts of my own computer.
Angelo Tech consists of several computers, smartphones, iPods, MP3 players, XM radios, and at least one working server and a firewall. I won't mention the pounds of cables and peripherals that we have stored, and I will certainly save for another time the many different ways my genius husband has rigged one thing to another to make it work in a magical way that it was designed but never intended. So over the weekend Jer spent many hours rebuilding every computer in the house. I was especially pleased to hear that the file server was back up and running and that we could resume work as usual. I was ecstatic when he rebuilt my computer and figured out that one of my memory cards had come loose and was the reason for me beating my head against the desk saying this is soooooooooooooooo slooooooooooooooooow.
So now that we're back up and running - faster than ever before - I am realizing that there were several things I should have backed up but didn't even think of. Such things as my custom fonts, PhotoShop actions, and Adobe Bridge keywords. All of those things are around here (except the keywords) somewhere, but it's still a minor annoyance.
So now that I'm just a day late in posting this, here is your Monday Mosaic for the week. You may see several photos of a certain pregnant belly over the next few weeks. That's my friend Tracey who I was lucky enough to hang out with for a short time while I was in Australia.
