Wedding Planning 101

Thank you to everyone who posted a congratulatory comment regarding my engagement. It’s indeed a very exciting time! We are both very excited, and like any newly engaged couple – eager to plan.

The other day I signed up to The Knot because I realized that I have no idea what all goes into planning a wedding. Dresses, invitations, cake, music, photography, flowers…? It seems never ending. The first thing they present you with upon signing up is a checklist of about 170 things to do. This is where I faint.

The good news is that some of the items were fluff and I could check off 20 of them right away. That leaves me with about 155 to go. :)

I suppose I'm not too bad off. We already have a few surprises planned for our guests and expect this to be a very unique wedding for them. (But that’s all I can say about that. ;) ) I think I have a photographer picked out (I hope she accepts!) and I’m going dress shopping tomorrow. We’ll be making plans for our honeymoon this week, and possibly even scheduling our band. I started the guest list and we have an entire 14 guests so far! Progress…

I know that some of my readers are far less anti-bride than I am, so if you have any thoughts or any helpful tips and hints, now would be the time to lay it all out for me. And of course I would be forever grateful. The only thing I can offer is that we want to keep it simple.

hey Katherine! Long time no see (from iVillage Oct '99)... anyway... CONGRATS! this is so exciting! (I, too used the knot, and agree, 70% is usable, the other 30 is so-so.) Anyway, congrats again, the ring is beautiful, the man sounds wonderful, and it's all very exciting.

We'll probably be getting married in our church, but we're still waiting for details of course. :)

Sounds like you have a good start. The Knot online is what I used. Well I used about 70% of their advice the other 30% you can take it or leave it. Have you picked a date/place yet? That usually drives the rest of it.
