As I mentioned in my previous post, I've become so interested in the ways that other people knit. Primarily the way that they hold the yarn. Who knew there were so many ways to hold the yarn? Left hand or right hand? Over the index finger? Around the middle finger? It's all so very interesting!
Because it is so much fun for me (and at least two other people I know) to watch and carefully examine, I thought I'd contribute my little video to the knitting world. I am considered a Continental Knitter meaning I hold the yarn in my left hand and pull the yarn through for each new stitch. I think my purling is probably the most unique method as I've never seen a continental knitter purl like I do.
This first video is of the knit stitches. I'm knitting my Central Park Hoodie which is almost half way done!
If you watch closely you'll see me wrap the yarn two ways. One way is to slip the right needle through the stitch and wrap the yarn around it before pulling it through. If you have ever watched the Craft Sanity video, she says that this wrapping is "very inefficient".
The other way you will see me knit is to reach the right needle through and grab the yarn and pull it through. This is the proper way to do it as a Continental knitter.
I find myself wrapping the yarn when I'm not watching myself knit. Such as while I'm watching TV or talking to someone.

This video is of the purl side of my CPH. If I could get the tension right on my index finger, I probably wouldn't have to use my thumb to assist. I've tried... oh boy have I tried! But ultimately I need to sit down with the right person who can help me with tension on that finger. In the meantime, this method works rather well for me. I purled the same number of stitches in only a slightly longer time than knitting.

I hope you enjoyed these two little videos and I inspire you to make your own videos! If anyone is interested in having me film you knit, let me know and we'll do it at Knit Together one night.
